Version 26.5.0 is the September 2026 release of Adobe Audition. It includes general improvements across the app.
- Record multitrack sessions or single waveform edits. Use real-time effects and automation while recording clips.
- Clean up audio with the Essential Sound panel and more than 50 built-in effects. The app handles noise reduction, EQ, compression, and restoration tasks.
- Edit in either multitrack or waveform view. Switch between them as needed for the task.
- Export finished mixes or cleaned-up clips in your target format.
Adobe Audition is for anyone who records or edits audio on a Mac: podcasters, musicians, video editors, and sound designers. It runs on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, macOS 12 or later.
Edit in Waveform Before Multitrack
New Audition users often jump into multitrack view before they understand waveform editing. Multitrack is for mixing multiple clips together. Waveform view is where you clean up a single recording. Edit in waveform first, then arrange in multitrack.
Forgetting to Save the Session
Audition saves audio files you record or import. It does not auto-save your session layout. A crash after an hour of arranging tracks means you rebuild from scratch. Save the session file early and often.
Overprocessing the Master Bus
The Essential Sound panel and the built-in effects are powerful. Beginners stack compression, EQ, and limiting on the master track and wonder why the mix sounds flat. Apply effects to individual clips or tracks first. Master bus processing is for final polish.
Ignoring the Spectral Display
The spectral frequency display looks intimidating. Beginners skip it entirely. That is a mistake. Clicking a noise burst in the spectral view and pressing delete removes clicks, pops, and hums that EQ cannot touch. It is the fastest way to clean a voice recording.
Working Without Headroom
Recording or mixing with levels pinned at 0 dBFS is common. It causes clipping that no restoration tool can fully fix. Keep peak levels around -6 dBFS during recording and mixing. Gain staging after the fact is harder than leaving room upfront.
How Audition Fits With Other Apps and macOS Features
QuickTime and Screen Recording
macOS includes screen recording and QuickTime export. Pull a screen recording into Audition to replace or clean the audio track. Export the edited audio and re-sync in your video editor. It is not a video app, but it handles the audio side well.
Apple Silicon and Core Audio
Audition works with macOS Core Audio on ARM and x86 hardware. That means any USB interface or built-in mic the Mac sees is available inside Audition. No extra drivers needed for most hardware. The Intel version runs through Rosetta on Apple Silicon if you need it, but the ARM-native build is the one to use.
Podcast Workflows With GarageBand or Logic
Some podcasters record in GarageBand or Logic because those apps are already on the machine. They then bring the raw files into Audition for noise reduction and spectral cleanup. Export the cleaned track and bring it back to the original DAW for mixing. Audition's noise reduction is the differentiator.
Adobe Bridge and Media Management
If you use Adobe Bridge, it can browse and preview Audition session files and audio clips. That helps when you have a library of past sessions. Bridge also handles batch metadata edits, which Audition itself does not do.
Stability and UI Refinements, Not Workflow Changes
The September 2026 release, version 26.5.0, is described as including improvements across the app. In practice, that means general stability and UI refinements. Nothing in the release changes how you record, edit, or mix. The workflow stays the same. If you are on an earlier 2026 build, the update is safe and recommended. If you are on a 2025 version, the jump is worth it for the accumulated fixes.
- No new effects or panel additions in this release.
- No change to the minimum macOS requirement – still macOS 12 or later, though Adobe's own system requirements page now lists macOS Sonoma 14 as the minimum for 26.5.
- ARM and x86 support remains the same.
- Language list unchanged from previous builds.
Pre-Install Questions
Can I Run Audition Alongside Other Audio Apps?
Yes. macOS handles multiple audio applications well as long as only one app uses the audio interface at a time. Close Audition's audio device before opening Logic or Ableton, or use the macOS built-in audio for one app and your interface for the other. Core Audio does not lock devices the way ASIO does on Windows.
Does Audition Replace My Current DAW?
It depends on what you do. If your work is editing spoken word, cleaning field recordings, or assembling podcasts, Audition is a better fit than a general-purpose DAW. If you compose music with virtual instruments and MIDI, keep your current sequencer. Audition's strength is audio editing and restoration, not MIDI sequencing or soft-synth hosting.
Will It Open Sessions From Older Versions?
Generally, yes. Adobe maintains backward compatibility for session files within a few major versions. The safest workflow is to save a copy of the old session and open that copy in 26.5.0. If the session uses plug-ins that are not installed on the new machine, they will be missing, but the audio files remain intact.
Built-In Mac Audio Works, USB Interface Improves Recording
No. The built-in Mac microphone and headphone jack work. For serious recording, a USB interface gives you better preamps and lower latency. For editing and restoration only, the internal audio is fine.
Can I Uninstall the Previous Version After Updating?
Yes. The install instructions say to remove the previous Audition version before installing. That keeps the system clean. Your session files and audio libraries are stored separately and will not be deleted when you uninstall the app.
- September 2026 release with general improvements.
- macOS 12 or later
