MouseBoost Pro 5.2.8 brings a few useful additions, including quick preview for folder trees, aspect ratio selection, and automatic OCR copy. This update also improves scrolling capture, adds insert-at-position and rename-from-list options in batch renaming, and lets you set a maximum depth for file and directory trees.
Here’s what stands out in MouseBoost Pro:
- Custom menus — Sort all menus to match how you work.
- Custom file types — Create your own file templates for quick access.
- Open in editors — Launch VSCode, Sublime Text, or Emacs right from Finder.
- Favorite folders — Jump to a folder you use often without digging through Finder.
- Quick file creation — Create common file types in a couple of clicks.
- Copy current path — Grab the full path of any file or folder.
- Terminal integration — Open iTerm2 and switch to the chosen directory.
- File hashes — Calculate MD5, SHA1, SHA256, and other checksums on the spot.
Avoid an Overloaded Right-Click Menu
New users often install MouseBoost Pro and immediately try every option at once. The result is a right-click menu so long it becomes hard to navigate. Start by enabling only the tools you know you need daily — file hashing, copy path, quick file creation. Add more as you get comfortable.
Another mistake is ignoring the custom file type feature. People create the same boilerplate files manually for weeks before realizing they could set up a template once. If you frequently write HTML, CSS, or plain text files, define those types in the settings and save yourself the repetition.
Some users also forget to rearrange the menu order. By default, new actions appear at the bottom of the list. A quick sort moves your most-used tools to the top, where they are actually convenient.
Finally, beginners sometimes skip the quick preview for folder trees. That feature alone can replace several seconds of clicking through nested directories when you just need to see the structure below a folder.
Scenario: A Front-End Designer
Lisa works on website mockups. She keeps her project files in a folder called mockups with subfolders for each client. Several times a day she needs to copy a file path to paste into Slack, calculate a checksum on a downloaded asset, and create a new blank HTML file to start a layout.
With MouseBoost Pro, she selects the file, right-clicks, and picks Copy Path — done. For the checksum, she right-clicks the downloaded asset and grabs the SHA256 without opening Terminal. And when she needs a new page, she right clicks, picks her custom HTML template, and the file is ready to edit. The folder tree preview also saves her from digging five folders deep when she just needs to confirm the structure for a team mate.
No Finder Slowdown with Custom Menus
Will this slow down my Finder?
MouseBoost Pro adds entries to the right-click menu, but it only loads when you right-click. You will not see a performance hit on the rest of the system. The menu itself can be customized — you choose which tools appear, so you never have to scroll through actions you do not use.
Does it work with both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs?
Yes. The current build supports ARM (Apple Silicon) and 64-bit Intel architectures. It runs on macOS OS X 10.11 and later, so any recent Mac is fine.
Can I undo a permanent file deletion?
The permanent delete tool skips the Trash. Use it only on files you are certain you want gone. For everything else, use the regular Move or Copy actions, which behave normally.
Is the interface in English only?
Yes, the interface language is English. If you need a different language for your menu items, that is not currently supported.
Do I need to install anything alongside it?
No. MouseBoost Pro works on its own. The iTerm2, VSCode, Sublime Text, and Emacs integrations are optional — they only show up if you have those apps installed. If you do not use them, the menu items simply do not appear.
