You drop MiniMeters on a bus to check stereo balance, then switch to a reference track to compare levels. It works alongside your DAW through MiniMetersServer, which sends audio to the standalone meter display. No need to insert plugins on every channel — just route what you need.
Quick Level Checks on Tracks, Buses, or Master
On individual tracks for quick level checks, on buses for stereo width and balance, or on the master bus for final mastering. The stereo meter shows channel balance at a glance.
A/B Loudness and Stereo Comparison with Reference Tracks
Yes. Route your reference track through MiniMetersServer and compare its loudness and stereo image against your mix. It's a compact tool for A/B comparisons without leaving your DAW.
Lightweight .dmg Installer for macOS 10.15 or Later
MiniMeters runs on macOS 10.15 or later and supports both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. The installer is a standard .dmg file. Once you open it, double-click MiniMeters.pkg and follow the on-screen instructions. The application itself stays lightweight — no separate background services to configure, aside from MiniMetersServer for DAW communication. You don't need to install additional audio drivers or route audio through system-level patches. The standalone mode captures system audio directly, so you can check what's playing from any source.
Persistent MiniMetersServer Process for Any DAW
A few features aren't obvious at first glance:
- MiniMetersServer is its own process. Launch it once, and it stays available for any DAW that supports audio routing to external applications. You don't have to restart it between sessions.
- Spectrogram update arrived in v0.8.0. It shows frequency activity over time, useful for spotting resonant buildup or identifying problem frequencies in a mix.
- LUFS meter compliance was updated in v0.7.0. The loudness readings match modern broadcast and streaming standards, so reference comparisons are reliable.
- Interface layout lets you choose which tools, colors, and display arrangement you want. You can hide what you don't need and keep only the meters relevant to your current task.
Workflow: loudness match a mix against a reference
- Open MiniMeters in standalone mode. Launch MiniMetersServer from the same installation.
- In your DAW, route your master bus output to MiniMetersServer. The exact method depends on your DAW, but typically it's a software-bus output or a send to the MiniMetersServer audio device.
- Play your mix. Watch the LUFS meter and peak level. Note the integrated loudness value after a few seconds of playback.
- Stop your mix. Load a reference track into your DAW and play it. Read its integrated loudness and peak level from the same MiniMeters display.
- Adjust your mix's gain or dynamics processing until its LUFS reading matches the reference. Switch between your mix and the reference track to confirm the balance holds over the full duration.
- Use the stereo meter to check that your mix's stereo width stays similar to the reference. The waveform display helps confirm transients hit at comparable levels.
MiniMeters stays visible throughout. You never leave the DAW or open a separate audio routing tool.
