Stellaris 4.5.1 runs on Intel Macs with a 64-bit processor. The game is not native to Apple Silicon — expect Rosetta 2 translation on M-series machines. Performance on a Mac mini 2024 M4 is adequate for medium-sized galaxies, but large late-game empires will strain the CPU.
Requires macOS 10.14 and Intel Only
Stellaris requires macOS 10.14 or later and a 64-bit Intel processor. No Apple Silicon native build is available.
How do I switch the interface to Russian?
Launch the game once, then close it after the menu loads. Open Documents > Paradox Interactive > Stellaris > settings.txt. Change l_english to l_russian and save the file.
What does version 4.5.1 fix?
I helped a friend set this up on his 2019 iMac — a standard Intel model, 16 GB of RAM. He plays medium galaxies, five AI empires, no mods. The Synaptic Lathe fix in 4.5.1 mattered to him: he had lost a megastructure to a bug that handed ownership to a neutral empire. After the hotfix, his starbase stayed his. Fleet automation followed his orders instead of doing its own thing, which cut out a lot of micro-management on the diplomatic front.
Fleet Automation Finally Follows Orders
- Fleet automation is now predictable. Before the patch, automated fleets could ignore your selected stance. Now they stick to the options you set. That means fewer situations where your science ship wanders into a hostile system.
- No more auto-disengage after 15 minutes. The old timer pulled ships out of combat if nothing happened for 15 days of game time. That caused losses in slow-moving wars. 4.5.1 removes that behavior entirely.
- Multi-player sessions stay in sync. Custom AI empires caused out-of-sync errors in previous versions. That fix alone saves a re-host for groups running themed custom empires.
- Fewer crashes at critical moments. The patch targets crash cases during first contact, federation law votes, and war declarations. Those are exactly the points where losing progress hurts most.
Fixes for Game Not Launching
- Game fails to launch after install. Make sure you mounted the disk image before running the installer. If the launcher window shows up but the game doesn't start, check that your macOS is 10.14 or later. Stellaris torrent files sometimes get flagged by macOS security — allow the app in System Preferences > Security & Privacy if it gets blocked.
- Interface stays in English after changing settings.txt. This happens when you edit the file while the game is still open. Close Stellaris completely, make the change, save, then relaunch. The switch to Russian only takes effect on a fresh launch.
- Performance drags in late game. Large galaxies with 15+ AI empires push the CPU hard, especially on Intel Macs. Drop the galaxy size to medium and turn off hyperlane generation in the new game settings. The map generation fix in 4.5.1 helps with galaxy-gen crashes, but it does not speed up turn processing.
- Multiplayer desyncs with mods. If you run mods, verify that all players use the exact same mod list and load order. The out-of-sync fix in 4.5.1 applies to custom AI empires, not to mod conflicts.
This hotfix addresses a Synaptic Lathe ownership issue, improves fleet automation behavior, and fixes multiplayer out-of-sync problems. It also resolves multiple crash cases.

Questions I get about this line
No native Apple Silicon version exists. The Intel build runs under Rosetta 2, which works but may show reduced performance on large galaxies.
