Festivitas — showcase 1 of 1

The Dock and menu bar look the same day after day. Festivitas changes that. It strings holiday-style lights across both areas automatically when it starts. No configuration, no themes to load — launch it and the lights appear.

Festivitas also decorates the Home Screen. The app sits in the background and keeps the lights running until you quit it. If you manage a small office or just want your own machine to feel seasonal, it is a no-fuss way to do it. One launch per session, and you are set.

Setting Up Holiday Lights in Under a Minute

Here is how I handle it after downloading the image. Open the disk image file. Drag the Festivitas app into your Applications folder. Wait for the copy to finish. Then open Launchpad and click the Festivitas icon.

The lights appear on the Dock and in the menu bar right away. No restart of the Dock or Finder is needed. You can leave it running as long as you want. To stop the decoration, quit the app from the menu bar icon or from the Dock.

If you move the Dock to the left or right edge of the screen, the lights reposition themselves to match. That is handled automatically, so you do not need to reconfigure anything after changing the Dock location.

What Version 1.9.4 Fix Means Day to Day

The fix release addresses a handful of edge cases that appeared after the initial macOS 14.6 compatibility update. For daily use, the most visible change is that the lights now stay aligned when you rearrange your Dock icons or when a notification badge appears. Earlier builds sometimes pushed the strand out of position in those situations.

The menu bar lights also redraw correctly after a display sleep-wake cycle. On a few previous builds, the lights would either freeze or vanish after waking the machine. That is resolved in 1.9.4 fix.

  • Dock icon rearrangement no longer misaligns the light strand.
  • Menu bar lights survive sleep and wake cycles.
  • No visual glitch when badge counts appear on Dock apps.

If you already have an earlier build running, quit the app, replace it with the new version from the disk image, and relaunch. The settings carry over without extra steps. That is all there is to it for the daily workflow.

Quick Workflow: Matching Lights to a Holiday Display

I set up Festivitas the same way every time. Download the image, drag the app into Applications, and launch it from Launchpad. The lights appear on the Dock and menu bar instantly.

For a custom look, open the app's settings from the menu bar icon. Adjust the light appearance there. I pick a color scheme that matches whatever wallpaper or desktop theme I am running that week. The changes apply in real time, so you can see what works without quitting and relaunching.

If you run multiple displays, the Dock lights stay on the primary screen where the Dock lives. The menu bar lights follow the active display. That is consistent across all versions after 1.9.4 fix.

When the holiday is over, quit the app from its menu bar icon. The lights disappear, and the Dock and menu bar return to their normal look. No lingering configuration files or background processes to clean up.

Keeping the Lights On Across Sessions

If you want Festivitas running every time you log in, add it to your Login Items in System Settings. That way the lights start before you open anything else. The 1.9.4 fix version handles that startup sequence cleanly, with no delay in the Dock decoration appearing.

That is the entire workflow from download to daily use. Set it once, forget it until you want a change.

Questions I get about this line

Open the downloaded disk image, drag the app into the Applications folder, then launch it from Launchpad.

Yes, it supports both architectures on macOS 14.6.

It adds festive lights to the Dock, menu bar, and Home Screen.

The install order

  1. Open the downloaded disk image.
  2. Drag the app into the Applications folder.
  3. After the copy finishes, open the app from Launchpad.
