IT admins who manage fleets of Macs often find Launchpad too rigid. LaunchOS gives you a Launchpad-style launcher that you can actually shape — adjust the grid size, launch apps with gestures, and now uninstall apps directly from the grid.

Setup takes under a minute. Open the disk image, drag the app to Applications, then launch it from Launchpad once copying finishes. You get the same familiar grid, but with a practical twist: long-press or right-click an app to uninstall it, and use Restart from the status bar menu when things misbehave. It speaks ten languages, including Russian and Japanese, so it fits mixed-language offices. For a small IT shop that wants Launchpad behavior without Apple's limitations, macos launchos is a clean swap.
How LaunchOS Compares
Three apps cover similar ground. LaunchOS goes the furthest in replicating the original Launchpad feel.
LaunchOS vs. LaunchControl
LaunchControl focuses on managing startup entries and background services. It does not give you a full-screen app grid. LaunchOS handles app launching and organization instead of system services. You use LaunchControl for cleaning up startup items. You use LaunchOS for daily app access.
LaunchOS vs. FinderGrid
FinderGrid is a utility that displays your Applications folder as a resizable grid. It works, but it lacks gesture support and keyboard shortcuts. LaunchOS adds those plus the ability to hide apps you do not want visible. FinderGrid shows every app in the folder. LaunchOS lets you curate what appears.
LaunchOS vs. AppLane
AppLane is a dock replacement that organizes apps into horizontal lanes. It is a different workflow entirely. LaunchOS preserves the vertical grid layout that Launchpad users expect. If you want lanes, AppLane is worth a look. If you want the classic Launchpad grid with modern additions, stay with LaunchOS.
Grid Size for Your Workflow
LaunchOS works out of the box, but a few adjustments make it more useful for daily work.
- Grid size – Set this to match your screen resolution and how many apps you want visible at once. A smaller grid works well on a 13-inch display. A larger grid suits an external monitor.
- Hidden apps – Remove system utilities and rarely-used tools from the grid right away. This keeps the launcher clean and fast to scan.
- Keyboard shortcuts – Assign shortcuts for your three or four most-used apps. It reduces the need to open the grid at all during the workday.
- Gestures – Enable trackpad or mouse gestures for launching if you use a laptop without a dedicated keyboard. It is a small time saver over time.
macOS 26 and Drag-and-Drop Install
LaunchOS requires macOS 26 or later. It runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. The install is a drag-and-drop disk image — no installer wizard, no system file changes. Copying finishes in a few seconds on modern NVMe drives.
Once running, the app replaces Launchpad as your primary app launcher. It does not modify system files or inject code into macOS. It sits in Applications like any other program. The grid respects macOS 26s Liquid Glass design effect, so it blends into the desktop visually. The status bar menu and right-click context menu are the main control points. Ten interface languages cover most common office setups, including Simplified Chinese and Korean.
Because this is an independent app, uninstalling it is straightforward — drag it to the trash. No leftover services or background processes. For IT admins deploying launchos cracked or launchos torrent versions across multiple machines, the same behavior applies: one disk image, one drag, done.
- Added app uninstallation with long-press and right-click triggers.
- Added Restart in the status bar menu and the right-click context menu.
- macOS 26
- Intel or Apple Silicon
Questions I get about this line
Long-press or right-click the app icon in LaunchOS and choose uninstall. Version 2.1.0 added this feature.
The install order
- Open the downloaded disk image.
- Drag LaunchOS to the Applications folder.
