When a sample doesn't sit in the mix, the usual fix is hours of chopping and nudging. Serato Sample 2.2.0 shortens that to a few clicks.
Sampler plugin — loads audio into your DAW for cutting, pitch-shifting, and time-stretching.
Stem separation — isolates vocals, drums, bass, and melody with one click, using Serato Stems tech.
Beatgrid syncing — aligns even unquantized samples to your project tempo.
Playback methods — trigger samples from a MIDI keyboard, computer keyboard, mouse, or piano roll.
Host automation — Stem On and Stem Levels are exposed as automation parameters.
It runs on macOS 11 or later, with 64-bit ARM and Intel builds. Interface is English. For a sampler that handles messy samples fast, this fits.
Workflow: Clean a Loop in Under a Minute
Take a drum loop recorded off a turntable. It drifts in tempo and has a vocal bleed in the chorus.
- Drag the WAV or MP3 onto the Serato Sample interface in your DAW.
- Click the stem separation button. The plugin splits the audio into vocal, drums, bass, and melody layers in a few seconds.
- Mute the vocal and melody stems by adjusting their individual level faders. You hear only the drums and bass.
- Turn on the beatgrid. Snap the sample start to bar one. The grid adjusts to the unquantized feel, so you don't lose the swing.
- Hold the sample over a four-bar section. Pitch 'n Time handles the stretch without that warbly digital artifact.
- Route the output to a MIDI track. Play the chopped loop from your keyboard controller, or draw notes in the piano roll for a new pattern.
Total time under sixty seconds. The same routine used to take three or four passes in a waveform editor.
Installs as Disk Image on ARM and Intel Macs
Serato Sample 2.2.0 is a 64-bit plugin with builds for ARM and Intel. It loads as a VST, AU, AAX, or VST3, depending on your DAW's format. The installer comes as a disk image. Run the standard procedure and it places the plugin files where your host expects them.
macOS 11 Big Sur is the minimum. That covers everything from Apple Silicon Macs through Intel Macs from 2016 onward. No special Rosetta steps — the ARM build runs natively on M-series machines. The Intel build works on Intel-based Macs.
Interface language is English only. There is no localization. If your DAW supports plugin scanning, it picks up Serato Sample with no extra configuration.
Missing Plugin Fix: Check VST, AU, or AAX Format
Plugin doesn't show in the DAW.
Check that you installed the correct format for your host. If you use Logic Pro, you need the AU version. For Ableton Live or FL Studio, VST3 is typical. Re-run the installer and select only the format your DAW uses.
Stem separation does nothing.
The stem function needs a full audio file loaded, not an empty clip. Confirm the waveform displays in the plugin window. If the file is silent or very short, the algorithm can't split it cleanly. Load a longer section from the source track.
Beatgrid won't lock to the sample.
Very sparse loops or long pauses can confuse the auto-grid. Draw grid lines manually by clicking on the waveform at each downbeat. The manual override works the same way as the auto-grid once you set the first anchor.
Parameters don't respond to mouse wheel.
This was added in version 2.2.0. If it doesn't work, hover directly over the parameter label, not the knob. The scroll region is small. If you still get no response, check that your DAW's plugin focus settings aren't blocking mouse events.
Pitch 'n Time sounds grainy on extreme stretches.
The engine handles most common ratios well. For very large shifts, consider splitting the sample into shorter segments and processing each one. Stem isolation before stretching also reduces artifacts because the algorithm works on a cleaner signal.
Works in Any DAW Supporting VST, AU, AAX, or VST3
Serato Sample works as a standard plugin inside any DAW that supports VST, AU, AAX, or VST3. That covers Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, Pro Tools, Studio One, Bitwig, and Reaper. You can load it on a track insert or a sampler track, same as any other instrument plugin.
Key commands from your Mac keyboard can trigger samples when Keyboard Mode is active. This is handy when you don't have a MIDI controller handy. The computer keyboard maps to the piano keyboard in a sensible octave range.
For macOS users running multiple instances in a single project, each instance keeps its own stem levels and beatgrid settings. That matters when you layer several samples — you can route each to a separate mixer channel and automate Stem On per track. Host automation lets you fade stems in and out over the arrangement without touching the plugin UI.
If you use Serato's other tools, the stem separation in Serato Sample shares the same engine. The output you get here matches what you would get from a standalone stem splitter, but inside the plugin you don't need to export and re-import files.
The format support spans every major plugin system on macOS. No wrapper or bridge is needed. That is one less variable to troubleshoot when a session gets heavy.
Serato Sample turns audio clips into playable instruments, and the version runs natively on modern Macs.
