Keynote 15.3.1 brings fresh transitions and builds — shift, radial wipe, and character blur — plus the usual bug fixes and performance improvements. It also makes swapping images in the Content Hub easier. If your Mac is running macOS 15.6 or later, this update installs cleanly on both Intel and Apple Silicon.
For the keynote torrent crowd, the big question is compatibility. Apple’s presentation app now demands macOS 15.6, so older systems won’t cut it. Beyond that, you get the full suite: import and edit PowerPoint files, export to PPT, PDF, HTML, movie, or image formats, and share via iCloud or Box.
The tools are practical, not flashy. Masks and instant background removal handle image cleanup. Magic Move handles smooth object transitions. If you have an Apple Vision Pro, you can rehearse in the Conference Room or Cinema spaces.
Interface languages cover English, Russian, German, Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese, and many more. If your Mac meets the OS bar, Keynote 15.3.1 is a solid, current build for daily presentation work.
Requires macOS 15.6 or Later
Keynote 15.3.1 runs on both ARM and x86 (64-bit) Macs. The hard requirement is macOS 15.6 or later. If you are on an earlier OS version, this build will not install. The disk image delivers a single drag-and-drop install: open it, drag the app to the Applications folder alias, and launch from Launchpad. No additional runtimes or dependencies are needed. The app itself fits a standard iWork install alongside Pages and Numbers. For a keynote dmg download, the process is the same as any other Mac application.
Keynote vs. PowerPoint and Google Slides
LibreOffice Impress
Impress is free and cross-platform. It supports PPT and PPTX import but the animation fidelity is lower. Keynote’s cinematic transitions — shift, radial wipe, character blur — do not have direct equivalents in Impress. Magic Move is also unique to Keynote. If you present primarily on Mac and want Apple’s visual polish, Keynote is the better fit. If you need to share files across Windows and Linux machines, Impress has broader reach.
Google Slides
Slides is browser-based and free for personal Google accounts. It handles real-time collaboration well and exports to PPTX. But its animation set is basic compared to what Keynote 15.3.1 ships. There is no equivalent to the Conference Room rehearsal environment on Vision Pro, and no Magic Move. Keynote also offers richer export options — HTML, movie files, image sequences — that Slides does not. For a presenter who wants offline reliability and Apple ecosystem integration, Keynote stays ahead.
WPS Office Presentation
WPS mimics PowerPoint’s layout closely. It reads and writes PPTX files and runs on Mac, but its transition library is limited. It lacks Keynote’s Content Hub image replacement and real-time change tracking across devices. For a keynote 15.1 download or newer, the WPS option is a lighter alternative if you only need basic slides. It is not a substitute for Keynote’s animation engine or rehearsal tools.
Workflow: Replace All Images in a Deck
This task uses the updated Content Hub in version 15.3.1.
- Open your existing presentation in Keynote.
- Select the first image you want to swap. Go to the Content Hub panel.
- Browse or search for a replacement image in the Content Hub library. The 15.3.1 update makes this step simpler — you can locate and apply a new image without reinserting the entire placeholder.
- Click to apply the replacement. The new image takes the place of the old one, retaining the original frame and mask settings.
- Repeat for any additional images in the deck. The Content Hub remembers your last selection, so subsequent swaps are quicker.
- Review each slide to confirm the replacements look correct. Adjust mask or background removal if needed.
- Save the presentation. Export to PPT or PDF if you need to share with someone who does not have Keynote.
This workflow is useful when a client supplies updated product shots or when you switch to a different visual theme mid-project. The Content Hub replacement saves the step of manually repositioning and resizing each new image.
- Bug fixes and performance improvements.
- New transitions and builds: shift, radial wipe, character blur.
- Easier image replacement in the Content Hub.
- macOS 15.6 or later
- Intel or Apple Silicon
Questions I get about this line
Yes, the app supports both Intel and Apple Silicon, as long as your Mac runs macOS 15.6 or later.
The install order
